Stolen Car Found In Pond Off Southern State Parkway, Police Say

A car found in North Pond at Hempstead Lake State Park was stolen in Queens, state park police said.

The 2019 Chevrolet Suburban was reported submerged in the pond around 5:41 a.m., Tuesday, Aug. 13 by the Nassau County 911 Center, said the New York State Park Police.

State Park Police Units along with Nassau County Police Emergency Service Unit responded and found the vehicle submerged in the pond. 

Officers immediately entered the water and conducted a thorough search of the vehicle which resulted in no persons being found, state park police said. 

An investigation found that the vehicle had been stolen from a residence in Rosedale, Queens, police said.

"A well-being check of the owner and her family has been conducted and all have been found to be safe," state park police said.

No suspects have been identified at this time. 

State Park Police detectives are conducting an investigation.
